John Ferguson Weir's The Gun Foundry will be on loan during 2012.
The iconic painting, The Gun Foundry, will be on loan to Brigham Young University as part of the exhibition The Weir Family, 1820-1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art. The painting is exhibited along with 74 works drawn from the BYU Museum of Art’s large Weir Collection, and from 27 other American collections. It can be viewed at the BYU Museum of Art from November 18, 2011, through May 19, 2012; at the New Britain Museum of American Art from June 30 through September 30, 2012; and at the Mint Museum, in Charlotte, North Carolina from October 20, 2012, through January 20, 2013. A reproduction can be viewed as part of our permanent exhibition on the West Point Foundry.

This reprise of our popular exhibition from the private collection of Richard Saunders, dating from the Civil War era through World War II, explores gloriously visual popular imagery and includes newly acquired artworks.
